Damon Wayans Jr.’ new production company, Two Shakes, has made history. The company has sold a drama pilot to The CW starring a gender non-conforming high school graduate, the first show in the U.S. that would have a gender non-binary character as a lead. Currently, Asia Kate Dillon has a supporting role as a non-binary character on Billions, and the Heathers reboot, which got pulled, had a non-binary character, as well.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the pilot, Glamorous, is written by Jordon Nardino and follows the graduate as they secure “the gig of a lifetime” at a cosmetics company. The catch is that the lead character put the company’s products on blast during a YouTube video. Nardino, Wayans and Two Shakes’ Kameron Tarlow head the show as executive producers.

Two Shakes is one of several production companies run by actors who hope to change the way business is done in Hollywood. Wayans’ company is specifically interested in highlighting characters who aren’t usually thought of as leads.

Wayans currently stars on CBS’ Happy Together and has a two-year first-look deal with CBS Studios.
