'God Friended Me' Canceled After 2 Seasons At CBS

CBS has canceled the drama series God Friended Me after two seasons.

According to multiple reports, the decision to cancel the series took place a while back, giving the show enough time to wrap-ups its storylines for a proper ending. It will have a two-hour series finale later this month.

In a statement to TVLine, CBS and Warner Bros. Television said, “We’re extremely proud of the unique concept and uplifting stories God Friended Me has told over the past two seasons. We thank the brilliant cast, writers, production team and crew for a show that stirred thoughtful conversation about faith, life and happiness, and made viewers feel good at the end of each episode. The creative team behind the show has one last ‘friend suggestion’ in mind, as well as an ending we hope brings a satisfying conclusion to Miles’ journey in search of the God Account.”

God Friended Me centers on Miles Finer, “an outspoken atheist whose life is turned upside down when he receives a friend request on social media from ‘God’ and unwittingly becomes an agent of change in the lives and destinies of others around him.”

Our review of the series, written ahead of its debut in 2018, reads, “Serving as a new age Touched By An Angel of sorts, what you may think is a preachy, cheesy drama about religion is actually a rather thoughtful, easygoing attempt at digging into what brings us all together.”

The series stars Brandon Micheal Hall as Miles, along with Violett Beane, Suraj Sharma, Javicia Leslie and Joe Morton. The show is produced by Berlanti Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television and CBS Television Studios. The series was created by Steven Lilien and Bryan Wynbrandt and is executive produced by Lilien, Wynbrandt, Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and Marcos Siega.
