The nominations for the 78th Annual Golden Globe Awards have made many upset with its various snubs. But there were some bright spots, including nominations for The Trial of the Chicago 7, Lovecraft Country, Hamilton, Small Axe and more.

Lovecraft Country is among the Best Television Series – Drama nominees, and Promising Young Woman, which features Laverne Cox, is nominated for Best Motion Picture – Drama alongside The Trial of the Chicago 7. Steve McQueen’s Small Axe is among the nominations for Best Television Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television. Hamilton is nominated for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, along with The Prom, which stars Kerry Washington and Keegan-Michael Key. Soul is nominated for Best Motion Picture – Animated.

Most notable among the nominations is the Best Director category, which has a majority of women directors. Regina King is among those nominated for One Night in Miami. She is just the second Black woman to score a nod here aside from Ava DuVernay.

Also notable is recognition for Chadwick Boseman. Boseman has received a posthumous Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama nomination for Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom. Viola Davis has also received a Best Actress in a Motion Picture -Drama nomination for her role in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom as well.

Daniel Kaluuya is among the nominees for Best Actor in a Supporting Role in Any Motion Picture with One Night in Miami‘s Leslie Odom, Jr. John Boyega is also among those nominated for his supporting role in a TV motion picture. Don Cheadle is nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy for his role in Black Monday.

In terms of musical nominations, Trent Reznor, Atticus Ross and Jon Batiste is nominated for their original score for Pixar’s Soul. Odom and Sam Ashworth were nominated for Best Original Song – Motion Picture for “Speak Now,” their original song for One Night in Miami. “Speak Now” has stiff competition; it is up against H.E.R., Dernst Emile II and Tiara Thomas for their song for Judas and the Black Messiah, “Fight for You,” and Daniel Pemberton and Celeste for their song for The Trial of the Chicago 7, “Hear My Voice.”

The Golden Globes will air Feb. 28 at 8 p.m. ET on NBC.
