A new teen drama series has been set at Freeform, and it is set in Harlem!

Harlem High is in development at the network, stemming from music executive Tommy Mottola’s new first-look deal with eOne. The first project under his deal with eOne is Harlem High, which has been sold to Freeform for development, with Will Smith, James Lassiter and Jada Pinkett Smith’s Overbrook Entertainment on board to produce.

The series, created by Mottola and written by Sam Laybourne, would “follow the diverse students involved in a Harlem high school’s show choir.”

“They deal with day-to-day problems at school but the one thing at the center of their lives is to dance, act and sing and be the best in the world. It’s a very realistic look and feel of what that place is,” Mottola told Deadline.

Motolla, who was key in orchestrating the careers of Hall and Oates, Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, Jennifer Lopez and Shakira, has been producing heavily on and off Broadway with The Donna Summer Musical, Jersey Boys and the upcoming Clueless musical.

Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith’s Overbrook is also producing Twelve, a film adaptation the documentary 12 O’Clock Boys, which they also produced.
