Here's the List of Films + TV Series Coming to Hulu in June

I tend to ignore Hulu when the time comes to share lists of titles that will be premiering on each of the major streaming platforms, favoring Netflix and Amazon over all else. But Hulu certainly shouldn’t be ignored. They are a player in the space, with a similar mix of movies and TV series (old and new, and from all the studios and networks), as well as their own original series, not-so unlike their competitors.

The joint venture of Disney, Fox and NBCUniversal (for those who may not be aware of who owns Hulu) has released a list of upcoming June’s offerings, which you’ll find below. Of note, I highly recommend “SouthLAnd,” the exhilarating cop drama which gives audiences what is supposed to be a raw and authentic look at Los Angeles and the lives of the LAPD officers who police it. It was one of those “prestige” series that wasn’t a huge ratings draw, but received much critical acclaim for TNT. And the network canceled after 5 seasons. Hulu will have all 5 seasons for you to binge-watch starting on June 1. Regina King was a starring member of the ensemble cast for all 5 seasons. Dorian Missick joined the cast during its 4th season, playing King’s new partner. And Cheo Hodari Coker (who is showrunner for Netflix’s upcoming Marvel Luke Cage series) was a series writer, and producer on “SouthLAnd.”

Also to premiere is the much-talked about, critically-acclaimed “30 for 30” documentary (7 hours long), “O.J. Made in America.” ESPN Films opened what they are calling an “epic” film in two theaters this weekend, in New York and Los Angeles. The film is currently playing at Cinema Village in NYC and Laemmle theater in LA from May 20-26. Given the length of the project, there are 15-20 minute breaks between each of its part.

For those interested in watching on the small screen, “O.J.: Made in America” premieres on ABC on Saturday, June 11, airing over 5 days. It’ll become available on Hulu on June 12.

The film had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in January. Directed by Peabody and Emmy winner Ezra Edelman, “O.J.: Made in America” traces a personal journey, from how Orenthal James Simpson first became a football star, to why the country fell in love with him off the field, to his being accused of murdering his ex-wife, his subsequent acquittal and why he is sitting in jail 20 years later for another crime; perhaps the defining cultural tale of 20th-century America – one that centers around two of our country’s greatest fixations: race and celebrity.
