Zoe Kravitz will be the latest actress in the Catwoman legacy. She’s been cast as the DC Comics character in Matt Reeves’ The Batman, opposite Robert Pattinson as the title character.

Now, Halle Berry, who portrayed the character in the panned, 2004 standalone Catwoman film, has made her thoughts known about Kravitz’s casting.

Berry said on Twitter: “Special shout-out to your new #CatWoman, the eternally graceful & extremely bad ass @ZoeKravitz. Keep shining Queen & welcome to the family!”

The Warner Bros. film has a cast that also includes Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon and Paul Dano as The Riddler. Jonah Hill was initially in negotiations to play the villain, but talks fell through.

Kravitz reportedly tested for the role last week with Pattinson. Ella Balinska, the British newcomer who stars in the upcoming Charlie’s Angels film, reportedly also tested, along with Ana de Armas and Eisa Gonzalez. No one on the rumored shortlist that surfaced last week seems to have tested.

She is the latest in a line of actresses to play the infamous DC Comics character, including Eartha Kitt, Michelle Pfeiffer, Berry and Anne Hathaway.

Reeves is the director and writer. The film is currently set for release on June 25, 2021.
