No Time to Die star Lashana Lynch knows there are folks angry that she is reportedly set to be the next 007, and she’s fine with it.
In The Hollywood Reporter’s cover story featuring Lynch and fellow No Time to Die star Ana de Armas, though she didn’t confirm the reports, Lynch discussed what it’s been like to handle the Bond fandom’s criticism of her character reportedly being handed James Bond’s “007” designation.
“It doesn’t dishearten me,” she said. “It makes me feel quite sad for some people because their opinions, they’re not even from a mean place–they’re actually from a sad place. It’s not about me. People are reacting to an idea, which has nothing to do with my life.”
She did admit to messaging some of her detractors back, usually responding with something nice. After responding to them, she’d receive a complete turnaround in their tone.
“They’ve been like, ‘Oh my gosh, thank you so much!'” she said. “But it’s an interesting test because it reminds them that they definitely wouldn’t say that to someone’s face.”
The film will be in theaters next year.
