“Homeland” will return for a 6th season in what will be a “hard reboot” for the Showtime series that will bring the action back to the USA, on the back of the presidential election. And it will do so with some new cast members, including “Hill Harper,” who joins the previously cast Elizabeth Marvel and Patrick Sabongui as series freshmen.

Harper has signed up to play the chief of staff to her president-elect; that’s right, the the president of the USA in the series will be a woman, maybe signalling what the show’s producers hope will be the real-life outcome of the ongoing circus that is the USA’s presidential election – a President Hillary Clinton; although I’d assume the president in the series won’t be called Hillary Clinton.

Claire Danes of course returns as star Carrie Mathison, who is now living in New York – after seasons in the Middle East (Afghanistan, Pakistan) and Europe (Germany mostly) – playing a CUNY law professor who is also an advocate for the Muslim-American community. Who Carrie will be chasing after this time around isn’t yet public information.

Mandy Patinkin and Rupert Friend will also be returning to the series.  back in January.

“Homeland” – which Showtime renewed through a 9th season – kicks off its 6th season in January, 2017.

Harper, repped by WME and Luber Roklin Management- is maybe best known for his nine-year role as Dr. Sheldon Hawkes on CBS’ “CSI: NY”. He recently played the role of Special Agent Spelman Boyle on the CBS series “Limitless.” On the big screen, he had a role in “Concussion” last year, and will appear in the upcoming Tupac Shakur biopic, “All Eyez on Me.”
