Calmatic, the director of music videos such as Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road,” has been tapped as the director for the upcoming House Party remake at New Line Cinema, Shadow And Act has confirmed.

The project, from LeBron James’ SpringHill Entertainment, was first announced last February. Atlanta writers Jamal Olori and Stephen Glover are writing the script for a reimagining of the 1990 cult classic starring Kid ‘n Play. This will be the feature directorial debut for Calmatic, whose real name is Charles Kidd II.

Back when then the news was first announced, James rebuffed the fact that this would be a reboot. “This is definitely not a reboot. It’s an entirely new look for a classic movie. Everyone I grew up with loved House Party. To partner with this creative team to bring a new House Party to a new generation is unbelievable,” he said.

At the time, Maverick Carter, LeBron James’ partner in SpringHill,  also shared, “We’re trying out some ideas for musicians to be cast in and to be a part of the project.”

This will be SpringHill’s second narrative feature after Space Jam, which stars James.

Calmatic has also directed videos for Khalid, Anderson .Paak and Dej Loaf.
