'How To Make Love To A Black Woman': Kendrick Sampson And Carra Patterson Cast As Leads In Showtime Pilot Produced By Lena Waithe

The Showtime comedy pilot, How to Make Love to a Black Woman (Who May Be Working Through Some Sh*t), has made two major casting announcements.

Kendrick Sampson and Carra Patterson have been cast as leads.  The project arrived at the network from its first-look deal with Lena Waithe, who will executive produce. The series is created by Casallina “Cathy” Kisakye, who wrote the pilot. Rishi Rajan also executive produces. The pilot director is Naima Ramos Chapman.

Here’s the description: With each multi-part episode, How to Make Love to a Black Woman unfolds a new collection of characters in an authentic world, telling stories about connection and rejection that explore our most harrowing – and harrowingly comic – sexual secrets.

According to Deadline, who first reported their casting, Sampson and Patterson “will play married couple Edwin and Nora. Edwin is the earnest and devoted husband of Nora, a free-spirited wife longing for more excitement in her marriage.”

Patterson is most known for her role as a series regular on E!’s The Arrangement, as well as her role in Straight Outta Compton. She was set as a lead opposite Kyla Pratt in the Fox comedy pilot, Patty’s Autowhich didn’t go to series. Sampson is most known for his recurring roles on The Vampire Diaries, How to Get Away with Murder, White Famous and Insecure.

Waithe has multiple TV projects currently on the air and in development, including Boomerang and Twenties at BET. Then The Chi, also at Showtime, has been renewed for Season 3. On the film side, she’s also producing and wrote Queen & Slim, the upcoming Melina Matsoukas-directed pic starring Daniel Kaluuya and Jodie Turner-Smith. Kisakye was a writer for Season 1 and Season 2 of The Chi, and she’s currently working on the second season of Amazon’s Homecoming.
