The trailer for the first major studio biopic on Whitney Houston sees Naomi Ackie transform into the iconic singer.

The biographical musical film, I Wanna Dance With Somebody, hits theaters on Dec. 21.

It is directed by Kasi Lemmons and written by Academy Award nominee Anthony McCarten

It is produced by legendary music executive Clive Davis and stars BAFTA Award winner Naomi Ackie. The film is described as a no-holds-barred portrait of Whitney Houston.

Here's the official description:

From New Jersey choir girl to one of the best-selling and most awarded recording artists of all time, audiences are taken on an inspirational, poignant—and so emotional—journey through Houston’s trailblazing life and career, with show-stopping performances and a soundtrack of the icon’s most beloved hits as you’ve never heard them before. Don’t you wanna dance?

The film also stars Stanley Tucci, Ashton Sanders, Tamara Tunie, Nafessa Williams, and Clarke Peters.

Tucci plays Clive Davis, the music mogul who discovered Houston, and Sanders plays New Edition star Bobby Brown, Houston’s future husband and widower. Williams takes on the role of Robyn Crawford, Houston’s close friend, confidant, and rumored lover. Peters and Tunie play Houston’s parents, John and Cissy Houston.
