Idris Elba’s comedy series, In the Long Run, has a season 3 premiere date at Starz — Shadow and Act has learned.

His semi-autobiographical UK comedy series was picked up for a run in the United States in 2019. Sky One airs the series in the United Kingdom and Ireland, where it premiered in March 2018. The first two seasons of the show dropped in December 2019 on Starz.

“So glad to show you more of my life growing up in East London. Starz have supported this show from the jump, giving “In the Long Run” a long run, in the end…????…It’s funny, just like me,” says Elba in a statement.

Season 3 will debut Jan. 3, 2021 on Starz at 9:08 PM ET/PT following the Power Book II: Ghost finale. New episodes will air week-to-week every Sunday at 9 PM ET/PM and 12:01 AM ET/PT on the STARZ App.

Elba stars in the series alongside Bill Bailey, Kellie Shirley, Jimmy Akingbola and Mattie Boys.

The description: Set in London in 1985, In the Long Run is about the Easmon family. Amid the tower blocks and shell suits, life for Walter (Elba) and Evelyn Easmon is all about quiet routine. They arrived from Sierra Leone 13 years ago and are happy earning enough to pay the bills with a bit left over to send back home. Walter works hard alongside his mate and neighbor Bagpipes (Bill Bailey) at the local factory while Evelyn patrols the estate selling make-up door-to-door. Their British born son Akuna and his best mate Scott hang out on the estate playing football and doing their best to dodge the local thugs. But when Walter’s brother Valentine arrives to the UK, his energy and lust for life changes everything. He crashes into their lives bringing laughter and chaos and igniting a passion for music in Akuna. And though he frustrates Evelyn and tests Walter’s patience, Akuna adores his ‘funcle’ Valentine because after all, he is family.

In season three, now set in 1989, ‘Walter and Valentine’s Mama arrive in east London from Sierra Leone, Kobna ends up in hot water over his love for cars and girls, and Walter and Agnes try to save their estate from yuppie developers.”
