Tambay reported about this film last month (HERE); and now here’s your first look (above) at Idris Elba in Cary Fukunaga’s ("Jane Erye," HBO’s "True Detective") West Africa-set drama "Beasts of No Nation."

Based on the novel by Nigerian author Uzodinma Iweala the film "follows the journey of a young boy, Agu, who
is forced to join a group of soldiers in an unnamed West African country. His
fledgling childhood brutally shattered by the war raging through his unnamed
West African country, the boy finds himself simultaneously fascinated and
revolted by the mechanics of war."

Elba stars as the Commandant, leader of the
guerrilla group Agu is forced to join, when civil war tears his family apart and
militants kill his father.

The novel is said to be explicit, complex, not shying away from the harsh stuff – a confrontational, immersive first-person narrative.

Wish we had more to show you, but that’s all we have for
now. Just the image alone looks very intriguing. No doubt, when more images and a trailer appear, we’ll have them for you ASAP.

Focus
Features will release the film sometime in 2015; it’s being rumored that a
Cannes Film Festival premiere is being planned.

Primary Productions’ Amy Kaufman will serve as co-producers on the film, joining Elba, Fukunaga and Red Crown.

Daniel Crown and Bill Benenson will serve as executive producers.
