Idris Elba – LUTHER

Idris Elba’s Green Door Pictures has teamed up with Tandem Productions (owned by French Film production and distribution company StudioCanal) and French production company Save Ferris Entertainment, for new drama series set in Brazzaville, the capital and largest city of the Republic of the Congo.

Titled “Brazza,” the proposed series is described as a gritty drama “that explores the culture and dark underworld of Brazzaville, a place where not everyone makes the right choice between good and evil.”

StudioCanal’s Rola Bauer adds: “’Brazza’ will be a visceral series exploring one family’s feud across Africa and Europe.”

All quite vague; so we’ll have to wait for story specifics to emerge, in order to gain a more firm grasp on what Elba and company are cooking up for us here.

Paul Viragh “Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll,” “The Face of an Angel,” “Ashes”) is attached to script the project which will be a one-hour drama series that will be sold internationally by StudioCanal.

“I am so proud to be working on this African-set drama and to introduce a global audience to a world and culture that resonates so vibrantly with me,” said Elba in a press statement.

The actor, prolific both in front of and behind the camera, can next be seen in the action-thriller “The Take” (previously “Bastille Day”) which will be released in the USA next month; he also has “Guerrilla,” “The Dark Tower,” “Thor: Ragnarok,” and “The Mountain Between Us” on his slate, all set to premiere next year. 2017 will be a very busy year for Mr. Elba.
