nullSpike Lee's Red Hook Summer, which was picked up by Variance Films for an August 10th theater release, will be distributed to all domestic non-theatrical platforms via Image Entertainment

Back in April, Image was acquired by Robert Johnson, BET founder and media entrepreneur.

In Tambay's exclusive interview with Variance Films' founder and head Dylan Marchetti, he revealed that Red Hook has gone through some significant edits.

Marchetti said:

I can say this- the film is tighter now.  In that sense, if you saw the film at Sundance you really haven't seen the film yet.  But without giving anything away, absolutely no key scenes have been removed from the film, and it's going to be just as intense and controversial as the cut you saw at Sundance… probably more so.

According to Variety, the contract was conducted on behalf of Lee and 40 Acres and a Mule by CAA and Artie Indursky and Robert Strent of Grubman Indursky Shire & Meiselas, along with Bill Bromiley, Brett Dismuke and Image Entertainment's Michael Bayer.
