Warner Bros. has set In the Heights as its 2020 event movie of the year.

The John M. Chu-directed film will be in theaters June 26, 2020, and will be marketed as a “mass-appealing family musical” perfect for all audiences.

The news comes weeks after Warner Bros. won the bidding for the movie rights for the Lin-Manuel Miranda and Quiara Alegría Hudes’ Tony-winning musical. The studio paid $50 million to secure the film after Miranda and Hudes worked to regain the rights back from the Weinstein Co. after it became embroiled in Harvey Weinstein’s sexual crimes.

Several studios were vying for a shot to produce the film adaptation of In the Heights, including Netflix, Fox, Sony, Disney, Paramount and Apple.

In the Heights follows the residents of New York City’s Washington Heights neighborhood and what happens after one of the locals wins $96,000.

It was nominated for 13 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Best Original Score, Best Choreography and Best Orchestrations, and won four. It’s also a Grammy winner for Best Musical Show Album and was nominated for the 2009 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.
