Echo ParkA 2014 Los Angeles Film Festival (LAFF) selection, acclaimed celebrity photographer turned filmmaker director Amanda Marsalis’ "Echo Park" – an understated indie romance starring Mamie Gummer and Tony Okungbowa – was acquired by ARRAY in February (worldwide distribution), the film collective’s 11th theatrical release.

Gummer and Okungbowa star as Sophie and Alex, a pair whose shifting lives and relationships mirror the gentrification in their Los Angeles neighborhood. They find themselves drawn to each other as Sophie contemplates the end of a previous relationship and Alex considers a move back to his native London.

Maurice Compte, Gale Harold, Helen Slater, and Ricky Rico round out the cast.

Marsalis directed from a script penned by Catalina Aguilar Mastretta.

“’Echo Park’ chronicles the heartbreak and heartbeat of a thriving city through the eyes of a talented new woman filmmaker,” explained Array’s Executive Director Tilane Jones. “We are proud to amplify the voices of Marsalis and actor/producer Anthony Okungbowa in a celebration of women filmmakers and filmmakers of color.”

ARRAY opens the film today, April 15, starting in Los Angeles and New York City, followed by a national tour. Visit http://www.arraynow.com/echo-park/ for updates on its expansion.
