In 'Yefon,' African Woman Defies Tradition By Learning To Read, Only To Face Death Sentence

A project I was alerted to by Isaiah Washington over the weekend has launched a fundraising campaign to raise $50,000 by September 21

Already attached to the film are a few names (and faces) you might recognize, like Jimmy Jean-Louis and Hakeem Kae-Kazim.

Titled Yefon, written by actress/producer/writer Sahndra Fon Dufe, and said to be based on true events, the film…

… tells the story of a young African girl’s pursuit of education, and how she stands against a male government that crosses the line to protect their ancient traditions and political interests. It is a story that shows that one little person can be the beginning of not only a change, but a revolution. YEFON is the perfect mix of a strong story, controversial issues, and a powerful message.

There's a lot more info on the project's Kickstarter page, but instead of me repeating it, first watch the pitch in the video below, featuring cast and crew, and then head over to Kickstarter by clicking in the widget underneath the video, or just click HERE. Thus far, just over $1,500 has been raised, with just over a month to go in the campaign.
