Introducing Dorothy Dandridge is now on HBO Max, marking the firist time that the film has been on a streaming service.

The film last aired on HBO in 2006 and will be added to the “Black History Is Our History” page on the HBO Max platform. It will also be available on HBO On Demand and partner’s platforms.

The logline of the 1999 film: Based on a true story, the film chronicles the life of Dorothy Dandridge, the first Black woman to be nominated for an Oscar for Best Actress. Dandridge (Halle Berry) begins her career working as a nightclub singer before eventually breaking into Hollywood, where she meets her steadfast manager (Brent Spiner) and struggles against racism. Her rise to stardom introduces her to Otto Preminger (Klaus Maria Brandauer,) a film director with whom she develops a complicated relationship. 

Obba Babatundé, Loretta Devine, Tamara Taylor, Cynda Williams and LaTanya Richardson Jackson also starred.

Halle Berry nabbed two huge awards for the film: the Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Miniseries or a Movie and the Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actress in a Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for TV.
