Anyone who has seen the NBC drama This Is Us know that the chemistry between Sterling K. Brown (Randall Pearson) and Susan Kelechi-Watson (Beth Pearson) is sweet bordering on soul-stirring. But viewers should be advised it won’t be smooth sailing for television’s favorite couple for Season 3.

In a television panel for This Is Us‘ third season premiere in Los Angeles on Tuesday, creator Dan Fogelman hinted that the Pearson couple would hit a rough patch, stating “put through some paces as a married couple.” Brown, who received the 2017 Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for his portrayal of Randall, co-signed Fogelman’s sentiments.

There’ll be some difficulty between them regarding their marriage. Randall makes some choices that his wife supports but not necessarily endorses, with regard to a career opportunity,” Brown said during the panel. “Being the dutiful person she is, she finds herself not being able to anymore, and there’s a bit of a break in the union we’re accustomed to seeing.”

Brown’s disclosure of this tidbit of information might alarm some viewers of the hit show, who have become use to false alarms. At the end of This Is Us’ second season finale, viewers were privileged with a flash-forward scene between Randall and an adult Tess in which he said, “It’s time to go see her”, to which she replied, “I’m not ready.” Many fans theorized that this signaled that Beth Pearson would be killed off, but her portrayed Watson and creator Fogelman debunked this fan theory.

In a similar vein, Brown was quick to confirm that road bumps for Randall and Beth does not signal the end of their marriage. “This is a marriage that works, so they will come back together,” the Emmy winning actor disclosed. With this confirmation, fans of Randall and Beth can rest assured that their brand of black love won’t be leaving our screens anytime soon.
