nullnullBefore you catch him in Joss Whedon’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. serial on ABC this fall (in a role that’s still a mystery to most of us, as everyone speculates), check out actor J. August Richards’ new web series titled The Hypnotist, which he tells me is a passion project of his.
The Hypnotist is a six episode sci-fi web-series (you know how we love it when black writers/directors/producers/actors wander off the beaten path) starring LisaGay Hamilton and Sharif Atkins
Here’s a synopsis:
“THE HYPNOTIST (9:09) is a mind-bending web series about a mysterious woman in Los Angeles who performs the ancient art of African Hypnosis. From all walks of life, clients come to her to quit smoking, stop over-eating, be more punctual, etc… However, the habit they seek to cure is often a minor symptom of a darker problem lying underneath the surface. In each episode, The Hypnotist seamlessly enters the subconscious minds of her subjects to uproot the source of their unwanted habits.”
Richards directs from his own script; James Bland produces; and Tracy TwinkieByrd cast the project.
The first episode of the series was a finalist in last year’s NBC Short Cuts festival and has screened at sci-fi conventions globally.
Unfortunately, it’s not yet available online for public viewing, but will be soon enough, I’m sure. It is a web series after all.
Richards continues to travel with it, building buzz. If you’re in Los Angeles, it’ll screen tomorrow, Wednesday, June 5, at Xen Lounge (10628 Ventura Blvd, Studio City, CA 91604). Doors open at 8pm. Admission is FREE before 9pm ($10 after).
So if you’re curious, and available, go check it out!
The project has a Facebook page which you can *like* HERE.
Here’s a teaser. When the series is entirely complete and available for online viewing, we’ll definitely share it here.
