Jada Pinkett Smith Will 'Salsa' w/ William Levy In New Romantic Drama

Jada Pinkett Smith will star in and produce (via Overbrook Entertainment) a romantic drama titled Salsa, which will center on a young woman (Jada) who, while at a critical crossroad in her life, meets a hunky Salsa teacher, and decides to learn Salsa dancing. Naturally, a romance blossoms from there.

Actor, model, soap star and Dancing With The Stars alum William Levy will play the hunky Salsa teacher.

The script is penned by Amy Heckerling, who’ll also direct the feature, with Pinkett-Smith and Miguel Melendez producing.

Shooting is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2014.

It looks like Jada’s working her way back into acting for the big screen, and seems especially bent on making a push into the Latin American entertainment market. It was less than a month ago when it was revealed that she would be starring in a Colombian thriller titled La escribana de uraba, which translates to The Clerk of Urabá, which is inspired by true events – the true story of a 14 year old Colombian girl whose father was killed in the late 1980s, and the investigation into his death by a US multinational representative.

Jada was in Colombia (Bogota specifically) last month, checking out the lay of the land, and even met with President Juan Manuel Santos, Culture Minister Mariana Garces and representatives of various organizations, to discuss the project.

Also, last summer, you might remember that she released a new music track and accompanying video with her band, Wicked Evolution, for a song titled Nada Se Compara, which she sung in Spanish. The video was directed by Salma Hayek.

And now there’s this Salsa feature with one of Latin America’s soap opera hunks, William Levy.

As for Levy, he’s also been busy, booking roles in a few big screen projects – from Tyler Perry’s Single Moms Club, to Lionsgate’s big screen adaptation of erotic fiction writer Zane’s popular novel, Addicted. He also had a recurring role on VH1’s Single Ladies.
