UPDATE: (5/21/2019): Showtime has confirmed to Shadow And Act that Mitchell will not be a part of The Chi next season, but had no further comment on specifics.

Previously reportedJason Mitchell has been dropped by his representatives (UTA and Authentic Talent & Literary Management), the hit Showtime drama, The Chi, and an upcoming Netflix feature, Desperados — due to allegations of misconduct.

The news swept across trade publications, with Deadline being the first to break the news. Shadow And Act has inquired to Showtime about the report of Mitchell’s dismissal from The Chi, which recently received an early season 3 renewal.

From reports, there are two incidents in question — one that occurred off-set during the production of Desperados and an earlier one that took place while filming The Chi, which is produced by Fox 21 Television Studios.

The Hollywood Reporter was the first outlet to report specifics about one of the alleged incidents. A source told THR that several actresses on The Chi had issues with Mitchell, including co-star Tiffany Boone, who plays Jerrika, the girlfriend to his character, Brandon. The report says: “A source with knowledge of the Showtime series says Tiffany Boone, who played Mitchell’s girlfriend on The Chi, was among several actresses on the series who had issues with Mitchell. She made repeated complaints of sexual harassment and allegedly felt so unsafe with her co-star that at times her fiancé, Dear White People actor Marque Richardson, came to set when she shot scenes with him. Boone declined to comment. The source also says Boone ultimately informed producers at Fox 21 that she could no longer work with Mitchell. Initially, he was retained while she was released at her request to pursue other projects (Boone will star in Jordan Peele’s Nazi-hunting Amazon series, The Hunt, as well). Other actresses on the series also were said to have had problems with Mitchell.”

Desperados had not begun filming (though it was still in some form of production) before, according to THR, he was replaced with Lamorne Morris. This is news that was just unveiled today in these new reports. Sources close to producers of that film, Good Universe, say that all three of Mitchell’s co-stars, Nasim Pedrad, Anna Camp and Robbie Amell, had complaints about him.

Mitchell has been a star on the rise ever since his breakthrough film role in Straight Outta Compton. He garnered critical acclaim for his role in Dee Rees’ 2017 Oscar-nominated Netflix film, Mudbound, as well as for the role of Brandon in The Chi.

This story will be updated as soon as we get more information.
