Amazon has given a straight-to-series order to I’m a Virgo, the upcoming scripted series from Boots Riley starring Emmy winner Jharrel Jerome as a 13-ft. man.
The half-hour series is described as “absurdist, coming of age story about a 13-foot-tall Black man who lives in Oakland, CA.” Riley has been developing the series for at least two years and announced earlier this year that Jerome would star.
“I’m thrilled to be working with Amazon on this project,” said Riley in a statement. “This show will either have me lauded or banned, and as such, I have demanded payment up front.”
Riley wrote the series and direct it as well. the executive produces with Michael Ellenberg of Media Res, Tze Chun and Jerome.
I’m a Virgo is a Amazon Studios and Media Res co-production.
This is Riley’s first project since his 2018 Sundance hit, Sorry to Bother You.
