One of the biggest questions surrounding ABC’s Roseanne spinoff, The Connors, is how the show is going to deal with the character of Roseanne herself. As you recall, actress Roseanne Barr was fired from ABC due to her racist tweet about former Obama staffer Valerie Jarrett. But now we know what will happen to the character, thanks to John Goodman.

Deadline quotes a recent interview The Sunday Times had with The Connors star John Goodman, who said that Roseanne’s character will be killed off. “It’s an unknown,” he said to the site. “I guess he’ll be mopey and sad because his wife’s dead.”

Even though this is coming from Goodman, who is a part of the show, this hasn’t been corroborated by ABC. But just from an outsider perspective, it seems like this would be the logical course of action. For instance, the show could easily time-jump a couple of months or even years into the future, allowing the writers to write out Barr’s character as having passed away.

Goodman also defended his former co-star, saying “I know, I know, for a fact that she’s not a racist.”

On the reaction, he said, “I’ll put it this way, I was surprised at the response. And that’s probably all I should say about it.”

We will see exactly how The Connors writers deal with the Roseanne situation whenever ABC decides to spill more details on the series. For now, we know that The Connors will air Tuesdays at 8/7c; a premiere date has yet to be released.
