Jonathan Majors may be through with Lovecraft Country for now, but Lovecraftian themes aren’t leaving him alone anytime soon. According to Variety, Majors is in talks to star in Gordon Hemingway & the Realm of Chthulu for Netflix. Spike Lee is producnig and Stefon Bristol (See You Yesterday) are directing and Majors will play the title character. The film was first announced this week and confirmed by Shadow and Act.

The film is based on Hank Woon’s screenplay with rewrites by Fredrica Bailey and takes place in East Africa in 1928. Major’s character is described as “a roguish Black American gunslinger” who joins with Ethiopian warrior princess Zenebe to rescue Zenebe’s royal leadership from the clutches of “an ancient evil.”

Even though the film’s title includes “Cthulhu,” Variety reports that the script isn’t based on H.P. Lovecraft’s stories. However, there’s no official word if the Lovecraftian monster will actually make an appearance.
