Gargoyles reboot…from Jordan Peele….at Disney?!

According to the entertainment newsletter, The Ankler (per CBR), Peele approached Disney about doing a live-action Gargoyles reboot. Disney hasn’t turned it down but is said to be sitting on the project. From The Ankler‘s Richard Rushfield:

“How do you turn down Jordan Peele? Well, you can’t. Who wants to be responsible for that decision? So in the absence of a good reason to say no, but prevented by their Big IP box from saying yes, Disney is slow-walking the decision. It’s hoping, it seems, that they’ll run out the clock, he’ll sign other deals elsewhere, and the project will just fade away.”

The Gargoyles cartoon ran from 1994-1996 centering on a group of mystical gargoyles that turned to stone during the day and came to life at night. Keith David and Salli Richardson-Whitfield were among the stars.  The show was known for taking on darker storylines than your typical cartoon, and it gained a cult following.

Perhaps a Disney-Fox deal may bring the project closer to reality?
