Jordan Peel – GET OUT

CinemaCon managing director, Mitch Neuhauser, announced this week that “Get Out” writer and director Jordan Peele, will receive their CinemaCon Director of the Year Award at the organization’s annual convention later this month.

CinemaCon, which is the official convention of The National Association of Theatre Owners (NATO), will be held March 27-30, 2017 at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, and Peele will be presented with this special award at the “CinemaCon Big Screen Achievement Awards” ceremony, which takes place on Thursday, March 30.

According the Neuhasuer, CinmeCon decided to award Peele this year because, “with the phenomenon known as ‘Get Out,’ Jordan Peele has instantaneously become a force to reckon with as a gifted and enormously talented director and filmmaker.”

He further added that Peele, “… has audiences and critics around the globe enamored and spellbound, dare I say hypnotized, with his wildly inventive directorial debut, and we are ecstatic to be honoring him as this year’s ‘Director of the Year.’”

To date, Universal/Blumhouse’s “Get Out” has grossed $139.4 million domestically to become the fifth highest grossing film in the U.S. this year, after Universal/Blumhouse’s thriller “Split” which is currently in fourth place. However “Get Out” is sure to out-gross that film by next weekend.
