With the movie set for release in March 2019, the promotional campaign for Jordan Peele’s Us continues to ramp up.

First look photos from the film, as well as additional details about the movie via its stars, were revealed in Entertainment Weekly

On the film, Peele said,  “For my second feature, I wanted to create a monster mythology. I wanted to do something that was more firmly in the horror genre but still held on to my love of movies that are twisted but fun.”

While details are very scant, the plot of the film has gotten a bit clearer:  The story is set in the present day and follows Adelaide and Gabe Wilson (Lupita Nyong’o and Winston Duke) as they take their kids (Shahadi Wright Joseph and Evan Alex) to Adelaide’s old childhood beachside home in Northern California for the summer. After a day at the beach with the Tyler family (which includes Elisabeth Moss and Tim Heidecker), Adelaide — who’s haunted by a lingering trauma from her past — becomes increasingly more paranoid that something bad will happen to her family. As night falls, the Wilsons see four figures holding hands and standing silently at the bottom of their driveway.

In the two first look photos, we see Nyong’o facing off with someone (or something) and those four figures from the description….. but…. those four figures appear to be Duke, Nyong’o, Wright Joseph and Alex. We’ll let you decide what you think that means.

“He was on my wish list of people to work with. The very fact that I have not done anything like it was appealing, because it promised growth and excitement and new territory,” Nyong’o said. Peele had her watch 10 classic horror films to prepare: Dead AgainThe ShiningThe BabadookIt FollowsA Tale of Two SistersThe BirdsFunny GamesMartyrsLet the Right One In, and The Sixth Sense.

On the difference between his Us character (who he described as a Homer Simpson-esque patriarch) and his Black Panther character, M’Baku, Duke said, “It was important for me to not come off as a warrior in this film. He’s very sporadic and impulsive, he’s the husband and the alpha, and I think that leads to some of the conflict that is in the marriage when we meet the Wilsons.”

On the young stars, Wright Joseph and Alex, Peele told EW that the up-and-comers had “relative fearlessness when it comes to horror and dark, creepy stuff.” The filmmaker doesn’t go into detail about what exactly what will happen to the Wilsons on the trip, but did reveal that the monsters in the film are called “the Tethered.”

Nyong’o adds “it turns into this relentless nightmare that taps into [Adelaide’s] deepest fears and ours as well — the idea that we might be our own worst enemies.”

Yahya Abdul Mateen II, Anna Diop, Duke Nicholson, Madison Cury and Cali and Noelle Sheldon also star in the film.
