WHAT WE ALREADY KNOW:

Screen Gems is remaking the 1986 rom-com, About Last Night, and Kevin Hart was the first actor to be cast in the project that centers on a man and woman who try to have a romantic affair, but are hindered by their own personal problems, as well as the interference of their disapproving friends.

Also, as of about 3 weeks ago, Hart's Think Like A Man co-stars Michael Ealy and Regina Hall were in early talks to join him in the remake.

And Will Packer (who also produced TLAM) is producing this as well.

And lastly, Steve Pink is said to be in talks to direct the film update of the play. Who's Steve Pink? He's a writer, director, producer, and his last effort as a director was 2010's Hot-Tub Time Machine. He's also attached to helm Bad Santa 2 and The Toxic Avenger

WHAT'S NEW:

It looks like Joy Bryant is going to play the lead female role, based on the information I have.

First, the original film's synopsis:

Danny and Bernie are two single men living their lives on the wild side. But when Danny meets Debbie at a bar and the two start a relationship with a one night stand, Danny's life takes a different turn. How does this passionate night become a full affair and what effect will this relationship have on both people and their friendship with their best mates?

Edward Zwick directed the original that starred Rob Lowe and Demi Moore as the couple who meet (Danny and Debbie), and James Belushi played Danny's best friend, Bernie. Elizabeth Perkins played Joan, Debbie's best friend.

Hart has signed on to play the Belushi role; while Ealy will play the lead, originated by Rob Lowe.

Regina Hall will play the role originated on film by Elizabeth Perkins, the best friend, who has a love/hate relationship with Hart's character.

And finally Joy Bryant will play Demi Moore's role in the first film. You'll recall we speculated that the role might go to another Think Like A Man cast member, since this was starting to feel like a TLAM reunion; but I also said that I wouldn't be surprised if the choice was an actress that no one expected. And I'd say that Joy Bryant's name probably wasn't the first (or second or third) name on most of your lists. Not that she isn't a welcomed choice…

You can catch Bryant on NBC's Parenthood, and next on the big screen in the action comedy Hit And Run (starring Bradley CooperKristen Bell and others).

This remake of About Last Night has a new official title – Sexual Perversity in Chicago – the original title of the 1974 David Mamet play that the first film adaptation was based on. So maybe the story of thing upcoming all-black version will be closer to Mamet's original play, which I read was more caustic than the 1986 rom-com, full of profanity and jargon that reflects the working-class, presenting "intimate relationships [as] minefields of buried fears and misunderstandings."

A fall production start date is likely.
