Though her new film is out on Netflix, Jurrnee Smollett is reminiscing a little bit on Lovecraft Country.

Fans of Smollett surely know her for turns in the sitcom Full House and as Eve Baptiste in the acclaimed film Eve’s Bayou. Very recently, Smollett has made her name known for her turns as Black Canary in the DC film Birds Of Prey, Rosalee in Underground and her Emmy-nominated portrayal of Letitia Lewis in the HBO series Lovecraft Country. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Smollett reflected on the latter and cherished the chance to work with her former co-stars.

“I will always hold Lovecraft so dear to my heart — the opportunity to work with such phenomenal artists like Jonathan [Majors] and Misha and Michael and Aunjanue [Ellis] and Wunmi [Mosaku] and Courtney [B. Vance], Jamie [Chung], Abbey [Lee],” Smollett said. “The opportunity to bring that story to life — it was a real privilege to play Leti F****n’ Lewis. What a dream.”

Many fans of Lovecraft Country are disappointed the show won’t get another season. Smollett revealed her time in the entertainment business has taught her not to have expectations with anything. The Emmy-nominated actress also reflected on the memory of her late Lovecraft County co-star, the great Michael K. Williams.

“I’ve been in it long enough to know not to have expectations with anything. It’s a project that will continue beyond those moments. It’ll continue to do the work, and while, of course, I would’ve loved to continue with it, those are things that aren’t up to us as artists, and you can’t get too attached to the results. You just keep your head down, and you do the work,” Smollett said. “But I feel like I grew so much as an artist. I was so challenged by the work, in such the most beautiful way. Rest in peace, Michael, who I just love and adore, and my heart is so broken about. I love my Lovecraft Country family, and we’re all still so close. And I think those memories that we created together, we’ll always hold onto it.”

Smollett can be seen now in Netflix’s Spiderhead with Miles Teller and Chris Hemsworth.
