Singer, songwriter, actress and reality star Kandi Burruss has joined Season 3 of The Chi on Showtime.

Burruss’s character will be Roselyn Perry, described as “the estranged wife of Douda (Curtiss Cook), back at his side to influence his political agenda and to help herself.”

Season 3’s series regulars include Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine, Jacob Latimore, Alex Hibbert, Yolonda Ross, Shamon Brown Jr., Michael Epps and Birgundi Baker. Luke James, La La Anthony and Lil Rel Howery are on board as new recurring characters.

Snowfall writer Justin Hillian has been tapped to be the series’ showrunner, replacing Ayanna Floyd Davis.

As reported earlier, The Chi incurred a scandal with former star Jason Mitchell, who was accused of sexually harassing his former The Chi co-star Tiffany Boone. He was also accused of harassing Davis as well. Davis released a statement saying that executive producer and creator Lena Waithe knew about Mitchell’s behavior since the first season. Waithe later opened up about her response to the initial allegations during an interview with The Breakfast Club. “My biggest regret is I wish I would have not trusted anyone to do my job and just reached out to Tiffany on my own and ask what I can do to fix it,” she said. “I trusted someone else to do my job and the truth is, can’t nobody do my job like me.”

The Chi returns for Season 3 in 2020.

Deadline first reported the news of Burruss’ casting.
