With his In Living Color reboot shelved for good it appears, Keenen Ivory Wayans is making another attempt to return to TV comedy, selling a pitch to ABC.

The network is said to have, at least, ordered a pilot script for the project, which, as THR says, will follow the ups and downs of when “the whitest guy in America” marries into “a sprawling, multi-generational, close-knit” black family.

Apparently, bidding among networks on the project was competitive, with ABC ending up with it.

Keenen will write and exec produce, although with no plans to star in it.

20th Century Fox TV and Chernin Entertainment will produce.

With today’s news, ABC is starting to look *blacker* than ever!

Shonda Rhimes is already an established brand at ABC (2 successful shows on the air, and at least 3 more ordered); Kevin Hart very recently sold an untitled divorce comedy based on his stand-up routine to ABC as well; There’s also Black-ish (a recent script commitment by ABC) starring Anthony Anderson, written by Kenya Barris (The Game), and produced by Laurence Fishburne’s Cinema Gypsy production company; and maybe I should throw in the recently greenlit A Slave In The White House series with LUV director Sheldon Candis adapting.

Is ABC becoming friendlier to so-called ‘black-themed’ content from black content creators?

Might this be due, in part, to the success of Scandal, and awareness of a woefully under-served audience?
Maybe not since the early to mid-1990s, when Hanging With Mr Cooper, Sister, Sister, and Family Matters were all on air on ABC, have we seen this many shows centered around the lives of black characters on the network, at the same time (or coming soon).
Of course, they all still have to be ordered to series…
