After being pushed off-cycle, Kenan Thompson’s upcoming NBC comedy series Kenan (fka The Kenan Show, Saving Larry and Saving Kenan) has added three new members to its cast. Originally put together in 2019, the project has been redeveloped.

Two of these roles have been recast since the original pilot. The only remaining stars are Thompson and Dani and Dannah Lockett, who play his daughters.

The new logline describes Kenan as “a recently widowed host of Atlanta’s No. 2 morning show, who struggles to balance his job and his young daughters despite all the ‘help’ he gets from his father-in-law and his brother/assistant/manager/house guest.:

Don Johnson will play Rick, Kenan’s father-in-law. The character was originally named Percy and played by Rick Garcia. Kimrie Lewis will play Mika, taking over for a character played by Punam Patel in the pilot. Chris Redd has been cast as a new character, Kenan’s brother, named Gary.

Kenan is executive produced by SNL boss Lorne Michaels, and the show is still not expected to conflict with Thompson and Redd’s duties on that show. Both are set to return for the new season.
