black-ish and #blackAF creator Kenya Barris and Pharrell are in talks with Netflix, developing a feature-length musical about Juneteenth.
Details about it are scant, and according to Deadline, this project is separate from the Juneteenth stage musical they were said to be developing back in 2018. The project is said to be in very early development and details about the storyline are unknown.
Williams will produce the musical with his production partner Mimi Valdes. Barris will produce through his production company Khalabo Ink Society.
Barris has an overall deal at Netflix where he’s produced #blackAF and the now-canceled sketch show series, Astronomy Club: The Sketch Show.
