Kenya Barris Says One More 'Black-Ish' Spinoff Is Being Planned

In a new interview, Kenya Barris says there is one more spinoff in the black-ish universe that is in development. Aside from the main anchor series, there is college-set grown-ish airing on Freeform, and the prequel series, mixed-ish, on ABC.

He confirmed in an interview with Deadline that the latest spinoff is still in the works at ABC (or potentially another Disney-owned network). "We’re brewing it, yeah. It’s something I’m really super excited about. Yeah, we’re brewing it, and hopefully it gets done, and adds to that world in a really special way," he said.

Barris also added that there is no issue with the next series despite the fact that he is under a deal with Netflix now. "Not if I stay, contractually if I stay within that world. No. It’s actually sometimes a little bit nicer to go and do network television because it’s a little bit freeing in a different kind of way because you get to tell different kinds of stories."

Barris' Netflix series #blackAF, which he also stars in with Rashida Jones, was renewed at Netflix a few weeks ago.
