Kerry Washington and Steven Pasquale are set to star in Broadway’s American Son written by Broadway’s newest talent, Christopher Demos-Brown. This will be a return to the Great White Way for them both.

Washington said Demos-Brown had written a production “that dives deep into the big questions of who we are as a nation, by exploring the intimate relationships within a family caught at the crossroads of love, loss, identity and community.”

According to Deadline, American Son is set in a Florida police station in the middle of the night. A mother is searching for her missing teenage son. The play is described as “a gripping tale of two parents caught in our national divide, with their worst fears hanging in the balance.” The play was initially commissioned and staged by the Berkshire’s Barrington Stage Company in 2016 and focused on an interracial couple who are trying to find their son after his car was found after a traffic stop. That production starred Tamara Tunie and Michael Hayden and won the 2016 Laurents/Hatcher Award for Best New Play by an Emerging Playwright.

The Broadway production will be directed by Tony Award-winning Kenny Leon, who directed Denzel Washington in A Raisin in the Sun.
