Shadow and Act has confirmed that Kerry Washington is set to star in Netflix‘s upcoming adaptation of Rockaway.

It keeps the actress and producer at Netflix, where she starred in American Son, The Prom and will soon be seen in Paul Feig’s The School for Good and Evil.

Nichelle Tramble Spellman is set to adapt the screenplay based on the memoir by Diane Cardwell. Her book was named one of the Best Adventure Travel Books of the Year by Outside Magazine.

Here’s the logline: On a routine assignment, a Manhattan journalist unexpectedly discovers the transcendent power of surfing, and finds herself running from the comfortable life she’s always known towards a life of romance and self-discovery in eclectic Rockaway Beach.

The film’s producers are Liza Chasin, who has a multi-year first-look deal with Netflix, for 3dot Productions; Kerry Washington and Pilar Savone for Simpson Street; Todd Shuster for Aevitas Entertainment. Diane Cardwell and Margaret Chernin exec produce.

The film is a co-production with Liza Chasin’s 3dot Productions, Kerry Washington’s Simpson Street, and Aevitas Entertainment.
