Two of Black Hollywood’s elite are finally on an industry salary list. According to Variety, Anthony Mackie and Kevin Hart are among Hollywood’s 10 highest paid actors on TV.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Variety’s calculations list Hart as the ninth highest paid at $500,000 for CBS and MGM’s TKO: Total Knock Out and Mackie at number 10, garnering $475,000 for Netflix’s Altered Carbon (Mackie will star in the second season of the show, which will have a new cast, in 2019).  Hart also tied with Sean Penn, who also came in ninth with Hulu and Endeavor Content’s The First.

The entire list includes Javier Bardem, Reese Witherspoon, Jennifer Anniston, Norman Reedus, Elisabeth Moss, Julia Roberts, Steve Carell and Kelly Clarkson, with Bardem’s salary topping the list at $1.2 million for an upcoming series from Amazon/Amblin TV.

Even though it’s great that Hart and Mackie are among the top paid actors, their salary amounts still highlight a disparity among Black actors. With Hart and Mackie being in some of the top films between 2017 and 2018, you’d think they’d garner more than just over an upper-middle class salary for TV work. Sure, they make millions from their films, but they also deserve to make millions from their TV appearances.

The disparity among Black actors in Hollywood was illuminated once again this past August when Forbes released its list of the highest paid film actresses, and no actress of color was named.
