“This is our final season – and it’s not because of Comedy Central, it’s us. It was just time for us to explore other things, together and apart" – Keegan-Michael Key tells The Wrap.

That’s right folks, it will probably comes as a shock to fans of the show, but the critically acclaimed Comedy Central sketch series "Key & Peele" will shut down for good after its current season ends.

But their working relationship will continue; just on other projects. Keegan-Michael Key shared that he and co-star Jordan Peele still hope to work together on movies, and that he could see them being like that famous comedy pair, Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor, adding, "We might make a movie and then do our own thing for three years and then come back and do another movie.”

“There will be Key & Peele productions coming up,” he said. “We’re doing the reboot of ‘Police Academy,’ and there’s a TV show in the works that me might do for Comedy Central. There’s lots of stuff we have cooking up.”

The fifth season of the series, which kicked off on July 8, will end in September, and that will indeed be THE end. It’s best to go out on top, I say. So kudos to them, and good luck on all their future projects, together and apart. The duo is on fire right now, with a number of projects in some stage of development, including what will be their first film together, titled "Keanu"which is about a kidnapped kitten, and the 2 friends who pose as drug dealers to infiltrate the criminal underworld in order to rescue it. There’s also the "Police Academy" reboot he Key mentioned above, as well as an untitled horror movie exploring the fears of being a black man in American today. And that’s just a start.

"Key & Peele" was nominated for several Emmy awards this year, including Outstanding Variety Sketch Series, Outstanding Writing for a Variety Series and Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for Key.
