Nominees of note – with respect to this blog’s interests – for the Gotham Independent Film Awards, courtesy of the Independent Filmmaker Project (IFP), the nation’s oldest and largest organization of independent filmmakers, in categories that include Best Feature, Best Documentary,Breakthrough Director, Breakthrough Actor, Best Actor, and Best Actress amongst others, are Gugu Mbatha-Raw (nominated in the Best Actress category, for "Beyond the Lights," directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood); for Breakthrough Director, Justin Simien is nominated for "Dear White People;" and in the Breakthrough Actor category, Tessa Thompson is nominated, also for "Dear White People."
