Yet another worthy Kickstarter campaign for you all to support, this one with an underrepresented segment in film – the Dominican-American experience.

OBIE Award Winning actor Chris Myers makes his solo writing debut with “GUAP,” a quirky character driven comedy exploring gentrification in Washington Heights, NYC.

The independent pilot is currently crowdfunding on Kickstarter for the $20,000 required to begin principal photography at the end of August, and has received 20% of the budget in its first 24 hours.

Using the lens of food, “GUAP” tracks the Lopez family restaurant as it struggles to deal with the pressures of rising rents and a rapidly changing neighborhood. The family unit negotiates the various options before them: adapt, fight the power, or hold out and hope for the best.

Utilizing indie film aesthetics and upfront storytelling, “GUAP” renders gentrification as a family affair, encouraging viewers to start their own conversations about it.
