Cannon BustersTelevision animation producer and director LeSean Thomas, best known for his work on "The Boondocks," "Black Dynamite: The Animated Series," and "The Legend of Korra," has taken to Kickstarter to fund his newest project, a television pilot for "Cannon Busters: The Animated Series."

Written and directed by Thomas, the series is based on his first and only comic book and is described as "an animated adventure about the value of friendship and just how far one is willing to go to maintain it. If ‘The Wizard of Oz’ met the ‘Hidden Fortress’ with influences derived from ‘Escaflowne,’ hip-hop, and classic RPGs — you get "Cannon Busters," one wild ride of fun, suspense, action, and wackiness."

As most know, animation can be insanely expensive and Thomas and his team – which includes contributors Joe Madureira ("Darksiders"), Thomas Romain ("Space Dandy"), and producer Tim Yoon ("The Legend of Korra") – are looking to raise $120,000 to produce an 8-10 minute short version of the project, with hopes of turning it into a complete series. They’re nearly half way there, with over $57,000 raised and 25 days left in the campaign at the time of this writing.
