Kid Cudi To Make Feature Directorial Debut With 'Teddy' At Netflix, Will Also Star In And Write The Jay-Z-Produced Film

Kid Cudi has set his feature directorial debut with a film he’s also starring in and writing at Netflix. Titled Teddy, Jay-Z and The Harder they Fall director Jeymes Samuel are executive producing.

“I always wanted to write my own movie, so I said f**k it and started doing it,” he said in a statement on Tuesday. “The road has been long, from it being a tv show for years to finally being a film. So it means so f****n much to finally be able to bring it to the screen next year, and I cant wait for u all to meet Teddy, his friends, his family and take a walk in his world for a bit.”

On what the film is about, he added, “It’s as if I took the song ‘Pursuit of Happiness’ and wrote a movie about it. I added a lot of my own personal struggles and experiences in it, so this film is very close to my heart. “I know, that deep down, this movie will help people in the same ways my music has. I’m continuing my mission. Now this is a comedy, but it wouldn’t be me if I didn’t sprinkle some real s**t in there. It’s trippy, it’s fun, it’s sad, it’s life.”

The project is also executive produced by James Lassiter, Mad Solar and Bron. Cudi, whose real name is Scott Mescudi, worked on the track “Guns Go Bang,” for Netflix’s The Harder they Fall, also produced by the majority of this team. Cudi recently appeared in the Netflix film Don’t Look Up and appeared on the song “Just Look Up” with co-star Ariana Grande. The two songs from both of these Netflix projects garnered acclaim.

The ever-busy Cudi can be currently seen in Ti West’s A24 horror flick, X.
