“What an incredible, incredible time we had Tuesday night,” she said tearfully. “So many great feelings.”

“I know you’re saying, ‘Don’t cry,’ but you have to understand what that means,” she continued. “I was nine years old ’til I was 18 years old, and…to walk through that set and to see all the details…If you have not seen it yet, it’s so much fun.”

She also called Union the nickname Kerry Washington gave her, "Goddess Gabby."

“Gabrielle Union, I am enamored with how you lost yourself in trying and achieving what you achieved with your portrayal to be again, as Kerry said, the goddess that you are and to reverse engineer who you are, to find and totally commit and deep dive into the awkwardness of Tootie at that time? Bravo, Gabby.”

Union starred alongside Allison Tolman, Kathryn Hahn, and Ann Dowd. The cast recreated the third season special episode “Kids Can Be Cruel,” which focused on the effects of childhood bullying. During the second half of the live event, Kevin Hart and Damon Wayans played Arnold and Willis Jackson from Diff’rent Strokes in the recreation of Season 1 episode “Willis’ Privacy.” John Lithgow played the brothers’ adoptive father Mr. Drummond and Dowd returns as her character that bridges the two series, Mrs. Garrett.

Live in Front of a Studio Audience is now available for streaming on Hulu.
