Kirk Franklin Biopic In The Works At Sony From Producer DeVon Franklin

Do you want a revolution!? Sony is in the process of developing a biopic on iconic gospel singer, Kirk Franklin.

As of right now, the film is untitled and will be produced by DeVon Franklin. It’s a match made in heaven (no pun intended), as Franklin, a former Sony exec, has established himself as a prolific producer of faith-based films. Franklin will executive produce, while Brian Ivie is the writer. Ivie most recently wrote and directed the documentary Emanuel from Viola Davis and Steph Curry.

The film will follow the “14-time Grammy-winning artist from his humble beginning through his meteoric rise to fame as he changes the face of gospel music and battles his demons in the process.”

Franklin released his first album in 1993 that sold 1 million copies, becoming the first gospel album to do so. His most iconic songs include “Looking for You,” “Stomp” and “Revolution.” His latest album, Long Live Love, made him the first artist to land on top of all five of Billboard’s gospel charts.

Deadline first reported this news.
