Shadow And Act’s latest podcast episode of Opening Act features Call Me Kat and The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder star Kyla Pratt. In the interview with Shadow and Act’s Trey Mangum, Pratt talked about what it’s been like what fans can expect from the new Proud Family series coming to Disney+.

The new Proud Family is a remix of both new and old Not only is the cast back to perform their original roles, but the series is taking on even more of today’s issues. As Pratt said, the series will start conversations regarding the topics covered.

“I was very blessed to be a part of something so amazing…I just loved playing [Penny Proud] so much because she was real,” she said. “She was a real teenage girl with a real Black family…it taught me so much while [doing] it. To know people watched it and got the same experience I did while I was shooting it is an amazing feeling.”

The series experienced a lag in production due to the coronavirus shutting down Hollywood, but now that protocols are in place, studio work can resume. But despite that, Pratt said she recorded some of her episodes at home during the shutdown.

“I’ve shot some episodes at home, I’ve gone [into the studio]–protected of course–and redid some things. We have amazing guests coming,” she said. “We have never held back from different conversations. Proud Family has been like, ‘Let’s talk about the things that people don’t talk about.’…It’s that same thing, but 2.0.”

“We have so many different things happening with the new Proud Family, but…it’s going to be worth the wait,” she continued. “The conversations that are going to be had while watching this cartoon–they are pushing the envelope. They are discussing everything that needs to be discussed in our world. I’m just happy I get to be a part of it.”
