If films like It, The Shining and Pet Semetary have proven anything, it’s that children have always played a vital role in the world of Stephen King. Joining this list is Kyliegh Curran.

Curran has been cast as Abra Stone in the upcoming film adaptation of Doctor Sleep, the sequel to the beloved classic The Shining.

For those unfamiliar, Doctor Sleep will be based on the book of the same name by Stephen King, which follows Danny Torrance, now a hospice nurse, as he copes with the same mental issues and bouts of alcoholism that plagued his father, Jack Torrance. Curran’s Abra is depicted as a girl who has the gift of “The Shining,” the same kind of psychic abilities Danny exhibited in the first film.

Curran, who previously portrayed young Nala in the Broadway production of The Lion King, rounds out a cast that includes Ewan McGregor and Rebecca Ferguson.

The film, written and directed by Mike Flanagan, comes courtesy of Warner Bros. and is scheduled to be released in theaters on January 24, 2020, nearly four decades after the release of The Shining.
