Tessa Thompson and Lakeith Stanfield are set to be the leads in an upcoming drama film from Boots Riley.

Titled, Sorry to Bother You, Steven Yeun of The Walking Dead will also star in the film.

The film will chronicle the journey of black telemarketer with self-esteem issues, as he discovers a magical key to business success (making his voice overdubbed by a white actor), propelling him to the upper echelons of the hierarchy just as his activist comrades are rising up against unjust labor practices. When he uncovers the macabre secret of his corporate overlords, he must decide whether to stand up or sell out.

Back in 2015, the film was among the grant winners through the San Francisco Film Society (SFFS) and Kenneth Rainin Foundation (KRF). The grants are awarded twice annually to filmmakers for narrative feature films that will have significant economic or professional impact on the Bay Area filmmaking community.

Riley was also selected as one of eight first-time filmmakers for the Sundance Institute’s Directors Lab. He studied film at San Fransisco State University before he left for a major label record deal for his band, The Coup.

Thompson and Stanfield starred together as Diane Nash and Jimmie Lee Jackson in Ava DuVernay’s 2014 film, Selma.

Upcoming projects for Thompson include Marvel’s Thor: Ragnarok and the science-fiction thriller Annihilation, alongside Natalie Portman and Gina Rodriguez. Stanfield will star alongside Jessica Williams in Netflix’s The Incredible Jessica James, Netflix’s Death Note and Amazon’s Crown Heights, among other projects. Of course, both also have the respective second seasons of the critically-acclaimed shows, Westworld for Thompson and Atlanta for Stanfield.
