Laurence Fishburne’s Cinema Gypsy Productions shingle has teamed up with French production group Makever, Russia’s Star Media and Poland’s Cynergy Films, for what the press release calls an ambitious high-concept drama series titled "Destination Mars."
The 10-episode project (each an hour long) follows a group of international astronauts struggling to survive after they crash land on Mars. While facing the unknown and their worst fears, they discover that the red planet may not be as dead as they believe.
Following the box office success of Ridley Scott’s "The Martian," "Destination Mars" is seemingly well-timed.
The project was recently shopped at MIPCOM – the annual trade show held in Cannes where international buyers and sellers convene.
No other information is available on "Destination Mars" at this time – notably whether Fishburne’s involvement will solely be behind the camera as a producer, or if he will also star in the series.
The actor was recently cast in A+E’s "Roots" remake, as well as BET’s upcoming Nelson Mandela miniseries, in the title role.
